This weekend (May 6 & 7) is the annual Santa Fe Artist Colony Open Studio event. This is a really cool event - artists who live in this renovated warehouse open their studio homes to the public, displaying their art for sale.

If you're in the market for original art, this is a great one-stop-shop. There is a huge selection of paintings, prints, jewelry, mixed media in many different styles at different price-points.

And, if you go, my uncle is in unit B-07. Make sure to stop in and see his art!

Has anyone ever done it? I'm considering giving it a shot for my neck pain and general stress relief. I'm curious about folks' impressions on acupuncture. The stuff I read sounds somewhat like hooey, but I'm willing to forego my skepticism and give it a try.

Questions I have:
Will I be pressured to buy expensive supplements?
What were you using acupuncture to accomplish?
Did the treatments work?
How many treatments did you get?
Any need-to-knows?

Thanks!

Anyone have a name of a Hawaiian-style font? I'm looking for something luau-ish, with a vintage flavor. Kinda like something you'd see at Trader Vic's.

So, I ordered the t-shirts for the Revlon Run/Walk from Custom Ink. They have a cool little proofing setup and such. Well, today, I got an online donation from a name I didn't recognize. I looked at the comments on my fundraising page and it was a donation from Custom Ink! How cool is that?

The little things make me happy. :-)

I've participated in the Revlon Run Walk for Women for the past 4 years now. I started doing it because my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer back when I was in college. She lived with it for 8 years. I figured if she was strong enough to survive cancer for those years, I was healthy enough to walk 5k in support of her and raise some funds toward breast cancer research.

I flew my aunt out from Minneapolis to LA last summer for my 30th birthday. It was so wonderful to see her. She looked really good and, aside from a nagging cough, she seemed pretty healthy, although we knew she was no longer in remission.

Six weeks after returning home, my aunt needed a walker to get around. The cancer had spread from her breast to lungs years ago and stagnated, but had been silently invading her bones, liver and brain within the previous months. She tried a course of chemo, but ultimately decided to scrap it and just enjoy her last days.

Six weeks after that, she was gone.

My aunt was one of the kindest people you'd ever meet. She would stop at nothing to help a perfect stranger and I never heard her badmouth anyone. She had one wish when she was diagnosed with BC - she wanted to live long enough to see her kids become adults. Her younger son granduated high school last year. She cracked jokes and kept a positive spirit right until the end. I miss her very much.

My dad walked the RWW with me last year and we promised that we'd fly my aunt out for the RWW this year. We had no idea she wouldn't be with us any longer. So, after years of asking, I've rallied my extended family into joining me... finally.

If you would like to sponsor me, please visit My Fundraising Page.
You don't need to donate a lot - every dollar counts. I'd really appreciate your sponsorship and positive vibes.

Thanks!

Finally done with the bathroom and hallway! OK, the bathroom baseboards aren't done yet and the counter is still not caulked to the wall, but we need a miter saw for the BBs and Sol's caulking this weekend. Eveything else is finito!

Pics behind the cutCollapse )

Not a moment too soon for that stuff... we're getting appraised on Monday for our refi. Can't wait til that's done. Work is so busy - it's kicking my arse. OK... weekend agenda = clean clean clean before the appraisal. Oh, and squeeze in a friend's birthday lunch today and date night tonight.
